Role Description

The Dropbox Tax team has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Global Indirect Tax, reporting to the VP Tax & Treasury.  This role will lead the indirect tax function, which includes sales and use tax, VAT, GST, and other transaction taxes, as well as the tax technology function at Dropbox. 

We’re looking for someone who will bring enthusiasm for all things indirect tax and thrive teaming with other smart Tax folks to drive and deliver Dropbox projects and initiatives.  You are a self-starter who follows through, gets stuff done, and has a passion for navigating everything related to transaction tax.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the global indirect tax function including strategy development, setting goals, measuring results and ensuring compliance with global requirements
  • Lead, mentor and challenge high-performing indirect tax team in a high-growth organization
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the enterprise to educate others on indirect tax issues, requirements, opportunities, and risks 
  • Stay up to date on the latest indirect tax legislative developments and develop strategies to manage impacts
  • Review indirect tax calculations, assist in the development of efficient processes that enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the indirect tax team
  • Identify tax issues and understand tax technical matters related to SUT/VAT/GST-type taxes
  • Develop and execute a strategy to manage indirect tax controversy including ASC 450 positions
  • Participate in new business initiatives with business teams, legal, technology and accounting to share information, resolve business and tax matters and identify impacts on existing systems and processes
  • Plan for the growth of our indirect tax systems, including our tax engines, working closely with our enterprise wide technology teams to develop and transform tax systems, processes, and and reporting strategies
  • Partner with Tax Leads and VP to develop and manage a high performing Tax team
  • Continuously learn about Dropbox new products, and new revenue channels to identify/understand the tax issues and communicate tax requirements to multiple internal departments.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of indirect tax experience with progressively increasing responsibilities and accountability - including overseeing a broad range of indirect tax compliance and special project work
  • Big Four Public Accounting or Law Firm experience combined with in-house tech company tax experience
  • Participation in, and passion for, the development or improvement of a Tax Engine for collecting sales, VAT, GST and other indirect taxes
  • Exceptional prioritization and organizational skills including an ability to synthesize complex tax matters into simple, concise communications
  • Project management experience, including creation of project / workback plans, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise wide objectives
  • Experience transforming processes, systems, tools with automation, AI and ML tools
  • Experience in the use of Snowflake, Alteryx, Oracle and / or other similar tools is preferred 
  • Highly organized and care about the details, and understand both the big picture and the details.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD, MST, Ph.D.) preferred
  • Ability to thrive in a fun and fast paced Virtual First environment as well as with in-person collaboration

Total Rewards

Dropbox takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, skillset, and peer compensation.  We target most new hire offers between the minimum up to the middle of the range.

Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox’s total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Current Salary/OTE Ranges (Subject to change):
• US Zone 1: $225,800 - $265,700 - $305,600.
• US Zone 2: $203,200 - $239,100 - $275,000.
• US Zone 3: $180,700 - $212,600 - $244,500.
 
Dropbox uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current US Zone locations are as follows:
• US Zone 1: San Francisco metro, New York City metro, or Seattle metro
• US Zone 2: Austin (TX) metro, Chicago metro, California (outside SF metro), Colorado, Connecticut (outside NYC metro), Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York (outside NYC metro), Oregon, Pennsylvania (outside NYC or DC metro), Washington (outside Seattle metro) and Washington DC metro
• US Zone 3: All other US locations
