My Journey into Tech: Engineering Manager, Bridget Schiefer's Perspective

As a seasoned engineer with over two decades of experience, I've had the opportunity to work in various technology companies. However, my path to Dropbox was driven by a desire to be part of a culture that truly values its people and fosters a diverse and inclusive environment. When I first heard about Dropbox's reputation for being results-driven yet people-focused, I was curious to learn more. And following my conversations with the recruiter and hiring manager, I knew I had found the right place.

One aspect that pleasantly surprised me about Dropbox was the strong commitment to female leadership. For the first time in my career, my direct leadership chain consisted entirely of women. Anuradha, my manager, and Sheila, her superior, have been incredibly supportive and intelligent leaders. Anuradha's leadership style resonated with me from the start. She not only takes a technical approach but also prioritizes the well-being and impact of individuals within the team. She understands the mental toll of setting unattainable goals and the importance of considering the engineers' lives outside of work. Together, in my first quarter at Dropbox we focused on setting realistic commitments for my team and ensuring their morale remained high. The results were incredible – we not only met all our commitments for the quarter but even started working on projects ahead of schedule, and furthered the team’s excitement around our work.

Beyond just my immediate team, the caliber of engineers I work with at Dropbox is truly exceptional. They possess a deep understanding of our end product and are committed to delivering a high-quality experience for both internal and external users. The level of dedication and passion they bring to their work is inspiring. Dropbox engineers are not only brilliant, but also intensely focused on continuously improving both themselves and the products they build. As a manager, it's a breath of fresh air to work with a team that inherently understands the importance of user experience and quality.

If you're considering joining Dropbox, let me say that this is a place where you will be supported, empowered, and given the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. You'll be surrounded by talented individuals who genuinely care about your success and will go above and beyond to help you thrive. Come be a part of our journey and experience the transformative power of working at Dropbox.
