Kedar Rudre on the most exciting and challenging aspects of working at Dropbox

Published on April 23, 2020

Many outsiders may be surprised to learn that we actually have not one but two offices in the California Bay Area. Just south of our San Francisco headquarters, a tight knit group of software engineers and business team members proudly call our Mountain View office home. Infrastructure Software Engineer Kedar Rudre shared with us his love for this office, his passion for being challenged at work, and how he’s adapting to WFH life.

How long have you been working for Dropbox?

For 16 months, I started in March 2019.

Is there a product or feature you’ve been part of recently that you’re particularly proud of?

Most products I’ve worked on at Dropbox have been really challenging and definitely something I have been proud of. I’m working on one right now that is around event logging. In a technical sense, it is very challenging, given the scale of the platform and the team size. What I really like about it is the impact it’s going to have on the Dropbox analytics side; it will give us some insights about how our customers use Dropbox as a product, which is really exciting.

How have you been challenged at work recently?

I feel challenged all the time at Dropbox, given the scale of the product, and that the team size we work in is really small. You always have the opportunity to contribute something significant and impactful, so that’s exciting and challenging at the same time.

What’s your favorite thing about the Mountain View office?

It’s a small, cozy office — you know pretty much every person in the office, so that’s something I definitely like. It’s also right next to downtown, so it’s very good for lunch; we go out to eat a lot!

What do you miss most about being in the office right now?

Definitely hanging out with my colleagues for lunch and coffee.

What’s one of your favorite Dropbox memories/events?

A couple of my favorite events have been the summer picnic and the Dropbox holiday party.

Where’s the first place you want to travel when quarantine is over?

South Africa! We already had plans that got cancelled because of COVID-19, so once quarantine is over, we want to reschedule that.

What’s your go-to WFH lunch?

We usually cook for ourselves. We’re enjoying a lot of fresh homemade food, mostly traditional Indian food.

What’s your favorite thing about working from home?

You don’t have to commute, so that’s one thing I’m liking! Other than that, I get to spend more time with my wife, because both of us are working from home. It’s nice to have lunch together.
