Meet Panashe Fundira, Software Engineer out of Dropbox NYC

Published on August 13, 2018

Q: What is your name, what office do you work out of, and how long have you been at Dropbox?

A: My name is Panashe Fundira. I work out of the New York office, and I started at Dropbox in June of 2017.

Q: What is your current role at Dropbox?

A: I make viewing files in your Dropbox on the web a delightful experience.

Q: Anything that you have done/accomplished at Dropbox that you’re proud of?

A: I led the successful launch of our thumbnail sidebar for our document-based previews from the beginning of the year to the end of March. This was the first time I’ve taken the lead on a software project. Users love the feature, and I’ve gotten awesome feedback about it from both Dropboxers and external users.

Check out this feature covered in this blog post under the PDF and PowerPoint preview enhancements section.

Q: Why did you decide to join Dropbox?

A: I decided to join Dropbox because of its strong engineering reputation, and because I felt that my work would be valued here.

Q: What surprised you most about Dropbox when you joined?

A: I was most surprised by how invested management is in my personal growth as an engineer.

Q: What does “creative energy” mean to you?

A: Creative energy is the ability to look past the obvious to create something elegant.

Q: How do you unleash your creative energy in your day?

A: Fixing issues in code and extending a code base that’s more than a decade old, has millions of lines of code, and hundreds of collaborators requires a lot of creative energy!

Q: What are your hobbies? Or what can we find you doing outside of work?

A: My big hobby is powerlifting. My best lifts include a 455-pound deadlift and 435-pound squat. I’m hoping to deadlift 500 in 2018.

Q: Any accomplishments you’re proud of outside of work?

A: I was once honored as one of only two collegiate rugby players in the United States who had a 4.0 GPA. (Sadly, I graduated with a 3.99.)

Q: What is something interesting about you that not a lot of people know?

A: I had never been to a beach before summer of 2016.
