Published on December 12, 2023
The Social Impact & Sustainability team is thrilled to announce the recipients of the H2 2023 Big Heart Award. Congratulations to Abraham Velazquez and Karol Harabasz from the Core team, and Lisa Youel from the Finance team! This is the first time we’re recognizing three recipients due to an overwhelming number of submissions. We’re grateful to see so many exceptional individuals embody the spirit of giving back, and dedicating their time and efforts to make a positive impact beyond the workplace. Their passion for community engagement aligns seamlessly with the values of Dropbox for Good (DfG), reflecting the true essence of our employee engagement program. Here’s a little more about our winners:

Abraham Velazquez

“Abraham supports the community and the next generation whenever he can. He regularly give back as part of the Board for Dev Mission, a nonprofit that helps young adults in the Bay Area break into Tech. Abraham is also an amazing leader at Dropbox.”

Abraham Velazquez's commitment to supporting the Latinx community and empowering the next generation is truly commendable. Notably, Abraham organized a successful Giving Circle fundraising event this year in collaboration with the Latino Community Foundation. The initiative raised a significant amount of funds, unlocking grants to support local nonprofits. This impactful effort exemplifies Abraham's dedication to making a positive difference in his community.

Karol Harabasz

“Karol has been active in DfG since the day he joined Dropbox. He has been running a number of events in Poland including both Impact Days and he is also collaborating in the EMEA DfG group with other Dropboxers supporting EMEA wide events. It's evident that he genuinely cares about making a difference, and his enthusiasm is contagious.”

Karol Harabasz has actively contributed to various initiatives both locally in Poland and across EMEA. Karol's leadership was particularly notable as he organized multiple volunteering events in Poland, ranging from helping vulnerable dogs to gardening at facilities to supporting teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds. He has also taken the initiative to educate Polish Dropboxers about Dropbox's volunteering and donation platform, Benevity, ensuring everyone is informed and engaged in social impact initiatives.

Lisa Youel

“Lisa has continuously demonstrated an unparalleled level of commitment to supporting charitable nonprofit work. Despite her massive day-to-day workload she is an active contributor to nonprofit work. She is a true force for good and I cannot think of a better recipient for this award!”

Lisa Youel is an inspiration to others, encouraging her team and fellow Dropboxers to make time and space for causes close to their hearts. Her leadership in Seattle’s volunteer events, particularly through serving on the board of nonprofit Treehouse, has directly contributed to creating better opportunities for youth in foster care. Additionally, she serves as a member of Young Men's Service League, a nonprofit where moms and their teenage sons volunteer together to serve their local communities, and as a soccer coach for both teenage and adult teams. Lisa's inclusive leadership extends beyond the specific causes she supports; she has successfully created opportunities for Dropboxers to connect and build relationships across various teams.

A big shout out to Abraham, Karol, and Lisa who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence, both professionally and in their efforts to support others! We are proud to have such compassionate and driven individuals on our team, shaping a brighter future for both Dropbox and the communities we serve.
